The Summer Elite Hockey League was created in 2003 by Dean
Larson and Todd Christianson who both had a long history of involvement in
Alaska youth hockey. Looking for opportunities to showcase and further
develop the skills of Alaskan hockey players, they created a league that would
include players at all levels providing the opportunity to get together with old
friends during the summer and provide the chance to maintain conditioning and
exercise during the off season.

The SEHL exposes Alaska’s top players to general
managers, coaches and scouts from professional and junior hockey teams, thereby
presenting a terrific opportunity for players to showcase their talents and open
doors toward scholarships and/or professional contracts.
The SEHL features two divisions; the first being an
“elite” division consisting of professional, college and junior-aged players who
have been playing in leagues all over North America and Europe. Players
include members of the ECHL’s Alaska Aces and the UAA Seawolves, guaranteeing
some exciting summer hockey.
The elite division also will feature many of Alaska's top junior
and midget players. The second division will be open to ALL midget
players.
